While I do fill that role at the moment, I'm a little hesitant to refer to myself as a CTO as we still haven't launched a product, acquired a single user, or turned or a penny in profit. I seem to encounter a lot of people who want to attach a CTO label to me as I'm the only programmer on the founding team of three.

When people hear the term “bad competition,” many might think this refers to incompetent or foolish competition. It’s structurally very difficult to change their DNA from being mechanical engineering companies to being software engineering companies. THE THREE TYPES OF BAD COMPETITION. I do disagree about two other points: First, this isn't the "quora rockstar engineer" perspective. It's my perspective as well and I'm not a software engineer let alone a rockstar. I am talking about self-appointed 10x egostars, not real solid software engineers. So it can be done.

Had I known it was going to take the internet by storm I probably would have been a bit more careful with my word choice (especially referring to.NET as a language, doh!). They may ask you to continue working and paying through the website, to boost their reputation there, or they may want to just go direct. Nothing essential that I disagree with you in your post, but when read by other people with minimal software engineering experience, they can have too high expectations. Either way is fine.
