The SEC defines an "accredited investor" as someone with over amillion dollars in liquid assets or an income of over $200,000 ayear. Once you take money from the generalpublic youre more restricted in what you can do. [ It wasnt because they werent accredited investors that I didntask my parents for seed money, though.
