After a few months, the demo site won a business plan competition. It's not a question of me being unwilling to work for equity -- I am. I was basically a consultant without the payment and I basically got taken advantage of. If you can't do that convincingly, go get investor money and hire a consultant.

For additional advice, I recommend reading " Finding a Technical Partner for your Startup ), by Daniel Kehoe, a CTO Consultant, who was kind enough to hear my struggles out and offered advice suggesting that we should supplement our current Advisory Board with a Technical Advisor. Starting a company while being a student is tough.

But as any programmer will tell you (I’m one), any lucrative contract or full time job you can get, especially these days, will usually leave you so burnt out by the end of the day that the last thing you will want to do is sit down and bang out more code. Now, I know that I need to build all the demo of my product A.L.O.N.E.

Someone who is egotistical enough to call themselves a rockstar, yet humble enough not to want 99% of the equity? Developer, engineer, CTO, or technical co-founder? I also know someone else who consulted me about his website idea. Well as a programmer of many websites I find that it is easier for my clients to consult my ideas first. I do consult people, however I am not looking for work right now. Please keep going that way, because we are honestly impressed ! THANK YOU!!! Insightful.
