Actually, here are two posts with a pretty good list of background items you should plan to cover: Startup Software Development Homework and Free Startup CTO Consulting Sessions. You don’t ask for an NDA from an investor before presenting. But the founder is trying to hide the problem. I’m frustrated just thinking about it.

Sign that person to an NDA if necessary. Software development is like an iceberg – 90% of it is under the surface. An NDA – This isn’t a deal-breaker for everyone, but it can be for me, depending on how it’s structured. If it's not financially viable, abandon it. Rework it as necessary.

The market price is less than the inconvenience of signing an NDA. I wanted to work in the pure, intellectual world of software, not deal with customers mundane problems. People who dont want to get dragged into some kind ofwork often develop a protective incompetence at it. That shows how much a mere idea is worth.
