The San Diego startup ecosystem is growing, along with the resources available to entrepreneurs. Breadcrumbs was conceived in June 2012 at Startup Weekend in San Diego as a self-tracking mobile application. Soon thereafter, Breadcrumbs was accepted into San Diego’s tech incubator, EvoNexus.

Steve Rowles has been serving the San Diego startup ecosystem for over 20 years. Beginning in 1987, he worked in the garages of the first companies to come out of UC San Diego. Performance milestones and a strong business plan are two key components to successfully raising capital from investors, according to Steve.

I owe ya’ a 20 minute call (or in person next time I’m in San Diego). It’s interesting that the question is pitch deck’s being obsolete versus business plans being obsolete. So very few investors want Business Plans any more. Or, as always, summary notes available below. Brad on blogging.

I found myself pushed into entrepreneurship after being laid off from a Marketing Director position with a San Diego based high tech company in 2003. I was turned on to the concept of coworking in 2010, when I hosted a networking event, for an organization I was leading, at San Diego’s first coworking space, the Hive Haus.

Well … I have had many late nights and I really didn’t contemplate writing many blog postings this month because I spent November in this interesting venture capital / fund raising dance involving lots of late night sessions reviewing legal documents, rewriting business plans and preparing for pitches.
