I've seen a number of conversations about universal search in the SEO trade circles (e.g. universal & blended vertical search was a hot topic at the Search Engine Strategies conference in San Jose last month), but I have heard a lot less buzz about it in startup circles.

It’s like arguing against vertical software. I run / wrote a site that serves approx 500,000 page requests a day, 5-10 complex SQL queries a page, god knows how much SEO related intelligence, 100,000s of users, external network comms.
