The founders were very sympathetic; a man, laid off from his job, and his very pregnant wife, who sold their house and investing $150k into the business and are working hard to make a go of it. At this point, the very pregnant cofounder was weeping. Daymond offered to be an advisor. The company took the deal.

In the financing process, the individual venture partner performs the due diligence on the substance behind a company’s pitch — e.g., the investment thesis, the competition, the people, etc. Put another way, the ideal financing partner is a financing cofounder. You don’t want investors to fixate on claims that appear crazy.
