And as more economies worldwide seek to shift their investment strategies offshore and seek out technology, hubs like Silicon Valley and Shanghai, among others, have reaped the benefits. That will take a long time to settle. In the meantime, we have what we have today.

These are investment vehicles in which central and local government agencies make investments that are combined with private venture capital and State-Owned Enterprises in areas of strategic importance. Optimizing profit above else led to wholesale offshoring of manufacturing and entire industries in order to lower costs.

the wave of semiconductor startups in the 1960’s/70’s, the emergence of venture capital as a professional industry, the personal computer revolution in 1980’s, the rise of the Internet in the 1990’s and finally. For consumer hardware, no startup has to build their own factory as the costs are absorbed by offshore manufacturers.

As of 2017, 421 companies have passed through the program in 6 U.S. These “Dual Companies”, companies that often keep operational presence in their home countries, raise 30% more funding than purely domestic startups.

Part 1 talked about what I saw and learned – the layout of a carrier, how the air crew operates and how the carrier functions in context of the other ships around it (the strike group.) For example, we can cruise offshore of potential adversaries (Iraq and Syria) who can’t get to our carriers.
