I came to the EDA at the very end of 1983, after working for a decade for Arlington County. At that time, development in Arlington was slowing down, while Fairfax County, which had a lot of land for development was becoming much more aggressive about attracting and retaining businesses and jobs, and generating wealth.

If you’re an entrepreneur, ESL is the most important company you’ve never heard of. I used to work for a company located in Arlington, VA that had the CIA as a client. Two years out of the Air Force, serendipity (which would be my lifelong form of career planning) found me in Silicon Valley working for my first company: ESL.

It’s like a dam has broken and now there is a flood of new entrepreneurs, investors, and big companies moving to Texas. The University of Texas System is massive including UT Austin , UT Dallas, UT Arlington, and UT San Antonio. And the entrepreneurs are moving there too. they are all chasing talent. Something is different now.
