The main thrust of the post is that with YouTube taking a 45% of revenue and talent taking 70% of the remaining revenue, YouTube Networks didn’t have sustainable businesses unless they invested heavily in technology as a tool to increase margin and provide defensibility. Europe is roughly the same as the US. Not so fast.

This was the year that the promise of technology to truly change the world and empower individuals (the reason I entered the tech world in 1994) reached global scale. The viral nature of social media no doubt aided this growth, as did improvements in the online shopping experience. The era of the patriarch is nearing an end.

fast.ai , the company he co-founded with Rachel Thomas and Sylvain Gugger is working to "radically democratize" deep learning by making it accessible to people beyond the tech world through courses, software and other methods.
