We wanted to share some other trends we observed; Countries have startups that play to their strengths. Silicon Valley is made up of solely one industry: technology, whereas countries in emerging markets have existing industries, around which entrepreneurs are innovating. Many startups are Silicon Valley clones.

And it was really cool to see a company from Tanzania. First up today was Joshua Schwadron presenting Betterfly , a startup he founded earlier this year that offers an easier way to find the best individuals (not companies) providing various services. More to come from entrepreneurs in Africa I'm sure. Don't spray and pray!

When I looked at my inbox this morning, I had emails from six organizations I have advised/worked with over the past couple of years (including Astia and Techstars ) announcing their partnership with the White House’s Startup America initiative. eBay is likely the most efficient “accelerator” to have existed to date.

My parents, who were both born and raised in different parts of Tanzania, were determined to show us the material poverty (and outsized generosity) of people on our first trip to India. After investing in technology for over 20 years, I have never believed more strongly in the transformative power of connectivity.
