However, working from or operating a business from home is becoming more and more common. In the United States, people are not jailed for owing taxes (for cheating on taxes, yes— just ask actor Wesley Snipes ). Claiming a home office deduction triggers an excessive number of audits. Professionally-filed returns are audit-proof.
