I'll add one more point: The SBIR program is based on a dated notion of small business research, and the multi-year process doesn't line up with the speed of many modern startups. In many cases I look at an SBIR and say "how about I just build that and sell it to you when it's done," but that is unrealistic today.

I got helped with talent search, boot camp for small startups, microloan…the list goes on and on. The science team is funded by an SBIR grant from NSF and we are very proud to be among the few companies in the country that actually have been funded. But never the less, there is help to get, but you might have to search for it.
