The next demarcation was 2007, when China launched a missile that blew up one of their own satellites into about 3000 pieces of debris. I want folks managing their programs, not managing the Pentagon bureaucracy. I think it’s going pay dividends for us. China’s Anti-Satellite Demonstration.

If the Microsoft board was managing for quarter to quarter or even year to year revenue growth, Ballmer was as good as it gets as a CEO. Projects not directly related to those activities never got serious management attention and/or resources. Yet in five years the only new thing that managed to get out the door is the Apple Watch.

Selling the company will result in a one time payoff, but owning the company can pay dividends for years. It’s pretty difficult to go out of business when you have money in the bank (amazingly enough, it appears GM may somehow manage this feat). Over time as the company grows, it is worth more and more.
