You can find the latest and greatest Microsoft and Java certified developers here and indeed the entire consulting industry is built around certification. There must be a healthy acquisition or IPO pipeline in the market. Malaysia tried but there simply wasn’t enough liquidity, or institutional demand.

Founders seem to take for granted exactly how in demand a good programmer is. Simultaneously, founders tend to take for granted how in demand bad programmers are too. There is a huge demand for programmers in America – good and bad. The old rules of supply and demand should apply in this case, but they don’t.

It seems learning to code has become a theme in 2012, and the demand is being met by Code Year and others. Three major acquisitions in as many months in this space confirm it is). It’s important you know the difference between Java and JavaScript, MySQL and MongoDB, front-end and back-end; I could go on. Not convinced?

Instead of being able to justify a somewhat fixed salaried workday, you find yourself working longer and longer hours as client demands increase. My first reaction is that becoming a freelance developer (or starting your own consulting firm) can also be a lot less conducive to launching a product.
