This post expands on a recent podcast I did with Living Corporate outlining the story behind my career switch to software engineering. Quick Background I was born in Nigeria, but mostly grew up in Dallas, TX. I’m currently coming up on my two-year anniversary as a software engineer on December 19, 2018.

It came from an amazing small startup in McKinney, Texas (30 miles North of Dallas) called NewToy , which they acquired. Think the next big startup can’t come from Dallas, TX? It’s a very smartly designed debenture program. Didn’t come out of the SF facility. Think again. Angry Birds?

I’ve been thinking about this since I first started writing code (APL) when I was 12 (ahem – 33 years ago) on a computer in the basement of a Frito-Lay data center in Dallas. The folks from the management consulting firm did all the design and analysis; we wrote the code to work with the massive databases that supported this.
