Robert has been working in software since 2005. There are many channels that can produce your first early customers and contacts, but the one I see most often is cold email. If that isn ‘t possible in a particular niche then I go for geographic locality, shared affiliations, or alma maters. He is a Ph.D.

I still do consulting, but I also do executive coaching, I write books, I give paid keynote speeches, I do part-time business school teaching, I’ve developed online courses and I also do some affiliate marketing. Those are ways to really create stability and optionality in my business. It’s fine. It’s about the ideas.

To find that buyer, I pretty much contacted the people who were within my sphere of influence within the community of Magic – players, card store owners, people who traded cards. It’s just a forum, that’s all this is, a community forum with lots of people sharing an interest. The new owner redesigned it. I love that.

To my surprise, it really caught on in the blogging about blogging community and many thousands of bloggers use it to describe what good blog content is. Many years ago I coined the phrase “ Pillar Article ” or sometimes called, “ Pillar Content “, to describe how to create great blog content.
