In other words, you’re one of dozens, perhaps 100’s of companies getting the same exact e-mail where the VC says they’re really excited about what you’re doing and they work with such and such partner and the firm has done such and such IPOs, etc. But back to the cap table. and they take a hefty chunk of the cap table to do it.

I know he’s smart but you wouldn’t hire a Javascript developer to do your database design – would you? When we want to sell or IPO companies they’re there again. In Silicon Valley the name I hear mentioned most often for very early stage deals is Joey Tran from Fortis. Here’s a hack for you.

They were referring to non-founder engineers, most commonly the first hire for technology businesses. Cap tables sound intimidating. It is typical for employees to vest their options over four years with a one year cliff, which means a new hire must stay on the company for at least one year to see any shares.

The re-heating of the venture funded tech market has pushed a heat up of the hiring market, and Im getting more calls from friends asking for help understanding startup stock (equity) offers. The preferred stock held by investors has (as the name implies) more rights and privileges than the common stock issued to employees. 4 Vesting.

In an IPO, it might not merely addexpense, but change the outcome. Those remedial actions can delay, stall or even kill the IPO. Of course the odds of any given startup doing an IPO are small.But not as small as they might seem. Thats where the name"incubator" comes from. What is an incubator? Im not sure myself.
