We also learned that law is code , and that leadership was needed to build thriving communities in a digital age. When I was a kid, the way I logged onto the internet for the first time (to play MUDs, naturally) was through an open dial-up console at San Diego State University. No logins, no codes, just raw uncensored internet access.

But we had some super-active customers who would act as editors, collecting feedback from all over the community and synthesizing it into a report of the top issues. It was absolutely worth it.

Most importantly, there is almost no niche or trend that is unserved by this community. When you participate in an open community like these you take advantage of tremendous amounts of effort. Even as "just a user" you make the community better by adding momentum. Yeah, weve got that. Leverage is work, though.
