Many of the founders of these companies are surprised to learn that I'm willing to review what they are doing (maybe an hour) and get on the phone for an hour with them and provide free advice. Of course, I provide part-time CTO services.

So we as VCs search for entrepreneurs/founders who have the whole package or as much of it as possible. They often make great team members such as head of products, CTO, head of sales, CFO, etc. Your financial risks of starting most technology companies these days are so low. Few people have it. He wanted to raise angel money.

They''ve been in talks with some consulting companies, but don''t quite the know the criteria for evaluating them and things like references(and where to get them). Do you have some complexity around algorithms, database? Are there particular technologies or platforms involved? Or are you starting from scratch?

When Open Source software projects are launched, the progenitors often start a for-profit sister company to garner some income from training, support and consulting. I have no doubt he will, for he is a true “Startup CEO”, even though his title is CTO at Acquia. Drupal was launched in 2001, and Acquia started in 2007.
