I recently spoke at the Founder Showcase at the request of Adeo Ressi. I said that at the Founder Showcase, too. And for many of these they were (over) funded 7-10 years ago and don’t necessarily all represent great returns for investors or founders. some founders lose their life savings.

I counseled the department manager against hiring since she would be subject to personal challenges in selling to our partners in Latin countries. Unfortunately my prediction turned out to be true, she felt harassed by one or more of our business partners and left the group shortly thereafter. HR rules are local.

That night I met Dave Jilk, my first business partner and one of my best friends. We had grown from three people (the two founder + me) when I started to over 20 people. In December, 1985, Saudi Arabia flooded the market for oil and by the end of 1986 the price of a barrel of oil was around $10.
