The trick is delivering business insights over this channel: use social networks to support relationship management. I think android / 4g networks will take over tablets. BROWN: Cost of managing a data store is negligible. BROWN: Impersonation on social networks is a big problem. Corporates don’t.

So I still had to outlay $50-80k for hardware costs. It performed incredibly well and allowed us to grow our costs incrementally as our business grew as well as to massively reduce our overall storage costs – it’s a shared infrastructure in they way that electricity or water is. A notable site is FaceSmash which sold for $30k the week the movie Social Network came out. Even Perez Hilton blogged about Flippa because of its relationship to FaceSmash and Social Network. I was also surprised by the performance improvement on dedicated hardware as compared to EC2 instances of roughly 10x. I'm feeling okay about our choices of frameworks that are slower and will cost more in terms of hosting and managing growth. Several of these are B2B applications with relatively smaller audiences.

Pinterest now supports 18m users with growth running at 50% per month with the following: Amazon costs are around $39k for S3 and $30k for EC2 (I assume per month). Traffic costs them $52 an hour during peak times, down to $15 during the night. They have 275 EC2 instances. They have 31 employees, up from 12 in December.
