All deals – especially (but not only) those that got venture funded. In LA we have www.socaltech.com but in every market there’s some sort of database. There’s obviously things like www.crunchbase.com and Venture Source, Venture Wire and many others. If you raise $250k at a $750k valuation the same goes.

Gust

Because Gust is the word’s most comprehensive database of high-growth startup companies (in terms of size, larger than Crunchbase and AngelList combined), it is increasingly used as a source for third party listings and directories. Gust takes advantage of the cloud, and you should, too.

They have a cute little app that takes a picture of a business card, populates your contact database and data is confirmed through crowd sourced labor. I asked him how the deal came out for investors since the sale price was significantly lower than the valuation on the round they were raising when we met. Venture News.

Friendster’s valuation set the tone for the entire social networking space. In old-school resume databases, most talented professionals didn’t want or need to participate. LinkedIn would create a networked resume document — a resume 2.0 — instead of traditional job listings with private resumes.

Valuations were enormous relative to progress in companies. Companies with less than $2 million in revenue were asking for $50-60 million valuations and getting them. I spent my days meeting companies, figuring out what areas of the market interested me and trying to get a sense for how VCs thought about fair valuations.
