Apple under Cook has doubled its revenues to $200 billion while doubling profit and tripling the amount of cash it has in the bank (now a quarter of trillion dollars).

What excited me was that they had an immensely talented team that understood how to produce & distribute low-cost videos, initially via YouTube. They know this model of YouTube production & distribution better than anybody else that I’ve met in my 5 years in Los Angeles. Sound familiar?

If we are in a bubble, that is a bit of an odd commentary for a company that grew revenues 83% year-over-year and grew earnings 93% year-over-year. Music distribution—the largest music distributor in the world is a technology company, Apple; its largest potential threat, Spotify, is a software company. Horace Dediu, Asymco.

SuperMac sold our graphic boards for the Macintosh through multiple distribution channels: direct sales to major accounts, national chains, independent rep firms, etc. But the computer retail channel was a large part of our sales. Worry about the sales results. What did we learn?

This valuation is for a company with 200 million registered users (although a much smaller # are active) and estimated revenues of around $200 million, equating to a steep multiple of 40 times sales for the microblogging service. It is also one channel that American Express uses for distributing their OPEN Forum content to drive engagement.
