Hiring seems to be the preferred use of seed funds (by investors and founders), whereas I'd prefer a focus on customer acquisition. And that should be the focus of the founders -- to find the special fit that will make your company take off. These companies are very early-stage and definitely have not shown product/market fit.

Or those special little bombs of a phrase like “enjoys playing founder more than being one” and “tells a good story but no follow-through.” If you combine this with self-awareness, you get a powerful combination for an early stage CEO. Do they have a cofounder who can balance them out? Sketchy would be one.

It was all technical. You know, the weird thing, Derek, and I should probably let you speak some time, but I was deeply technical when I went into Andersen consulting, and I got paid much less than engineers who graduated, because I had a degree in economics. I guess if you do more than one, I guess by definition, that’s serial.
