Singapore is by far the most developed behind those big three markets with government schemes attracting over a dozen early stage firms to set up shop here (e.g. the large government-linked corporations setting up their own venture arms (e.g. Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, and Vietnam each have a couple of very good VC firms.

Interestingly, Indonesia has a lot more small businesses (54 million) than China (54 million), despite having a population only a quarter of the world’s most populous country. In a 2011 and 2012 survey conducted by McKinsey of SMEs in Asia, SMEs who use the Internet say it has helped them gain revenue as well as reduce costs.

We intend to focus on the ride-sharing, transportation market in South Asia, as it is the most eventful zone in this regard: along with also being a sector that’s making leaps and strides in its scope and revenue.

Mobile Data as a percentage of total revenue is about 7.5%. India was a major market for Blackberry (like Indonesia), but the youth segment abandoned RIM for Android. Data services currently contribute only about 8-9 % of revenue for mobile operators, versus 52% in the US. Mobile Data ARPU is 60-70 Rupees per data user.
