Michael Smith, leader of the Social Innovation team at the Case Foundation , introduced the Foundation as a non-profit started in 1997 by Steve Case (AOL co-founder) and his wife, Jean Case. Case Foundation didn’t have a website until 2005, although founded 1997.

I first met and worked with Bobby in the mid-2000s at the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), where he was a co-founder and on the board with me. Bobby is awesome and I’m really psyched he’s back in Boulder at CU.

This LP is also a long time investor in Union Square Ventures and was one of the first people Fred introduced us to when we started raising the first Foundry Group fund in 2007. In 2007, when we set out to raise our first Foundry Group fund, early stage tech VC was in the shitter. But is wasn’t always this way.

This probably wasn’t a fun period of time for a new VC but nonetheless probably made Mike stronger than having started in 1997. Finally, I do want to mention that Mike was the founder of DogPatch Labs , which has facilities in Cambridge, New York and San Francisco. Founded 2007 in Boulder, CO. Competitors: Google.

And a lot of experts and a lot of CEOs and company founders tell me that those shareholder letters were models of simplicity, which kinda led me in that direction. After 2007, his letters became easier to read, even though Amazon grew more complex over time. And that, to me, that is simple as the new superpower. (07:36):

I’d like to explain as best I can my opinion on what is going on because most of what I hear from entrepreneurs is not only wrong but is reminiscent of what I heard in 1997-2000. You’ll see here that in 2007 people were willing to pay 7.7x Many founders don’t understand why inside rounds are so difficult.
