Certain experts have described the situation as a Keynesian supply shock, a negative event that triggers aggregate supply shortages with bigger impacts than the prior reduction in labor supply. Likewise, data is needed for better forecasting. Better forecasting with digitized deal management enhances the robustness of supply chains.

Had Facebook not purchased Instagram, Facebook’s aggregate numbers likely would have dipped as millennials have largely abandoned Facebook for Instagram and Snapchat. The primarily bottlenecks are battery and heat dispersion (CPU/GPU can be offloaded to the cloud, and 5G should be fast enough for real-time, cloud-driven computer vision).

We’ve seen some modest progress in people upgrading from Excel to Google Sheets; use of some CRM; and a cloud-based storage service. Advances in machine learning, specifically natural language processing, have made generating these baseline, aggregate datasets possible, at scale, with high accuracy. But beyond that, not much.

Companies that reliably fail to make their forecasted numbers are exceptionally prone to “management retooling.&# Similarly, it’s easy to generate large aggregate numbers by simply falling back to non-disruptive or non-sustainable tactics (see Validated learning about customers for one example).
