The main thrust of the post is that with YouTube taking a 45% of revenue and talent taking 70% of the remaining revenue, YouTube Networks didn’t have sustainable businesses unless they invested heavily in technology as a tool to increase margin and provide defensibility. Europe is roughly the same as the US. And global.

I was watching my favorite show on TV this morning – GPS (Global Public Square) with Fareed Zakaria. The show has become my best curator of which books to read (including my favorite of last year, The Accidental Superpower ) and my go to for understanding geopolitics of: Russia, Iran, Pakistan, China, India and of course the US.

This was the year that the promise of technology to truly change the world and empower individuals (the reason I entered the tech world in 1994) reached global scale. As of year-end, Foursquare had over 15 million users, with an exponential growth rate globally. The era of the patriarch is nearing an end.

I selected curate because it represents that I am the director of my museum which is my life and my business. Interesting to note that curate is based in the Latin word cura which means care. We have already released an Apache Zookeeper interface called Curator at Github and also plan to release a Java client library called Astyanax (the son of Hector, who was Cassandras brother, and Hector is also the name of a commonly used Java client library for Cassandra that we have improved upon).
