Prince (CloudFlare): In order for CloudFlare to work, we had to build a network, so we didn’t have customers until late spring 2010 [about 9 months after launch], but we had a bunch of people we knew were potential customers. The juxtaposition of the two experiences (my talk vs. the casual madness of the Apple Store) combined with a line from Peter Thiel’s book Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future reminded me of another line that I heard at the UP Global Annual Summit in Las Vegas over the summer. It was the best 5 days of networking I spent last year. But for all of the speakers Paddy brought over he also organized private events for us to network amongst ourselves. And that was the brilliance – the crowd got a massive conference and the speakers got some high-quality networking time amongst each other.

I especially like the newest personal flying car , introduced at the most recent Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It’s easy to see the value of electric power versus fossil-fuel engines, but we are a long way from the network of drone service stations and mechanics that exist today for conventional transportation.

I remember one brutal season doing the January accessory show in New York, flying to Hong Kong to walk their trade show and meet with suppliers, then back to the US to do Magic in Las Vegas, back to NY to do Coterie , and then to Paris to do Premiere Classe. It was crazy! We met all of our showrooms at the trade shows.
