While not 1999 all over again but I am observing first-hand the signs of funding frenzy. Also, if there is a lowering of M&A activity this will lead to increased financing needs for startups driving higher failure rates or increases in “adverse terms” entering future financing rounds. I know not everybody agrees.

Today, Rover announced that Menlo Ventures has led a new $12m round of financing. We invested in the company in 1999 during the ascension of the Internet bubble. I had previously raised VC in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2005. Another called Parker Harris, the co-founder and CTO. I look for firms in which some of the partners (my partner) have operational experience and know what it’s like to wake up every day and be an entrepreneur. I think good VC’s really do make a difference.
