Paul Graham on fundraising

Startup Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned by Eric Ries Saturday, August 2, 2008 Paul Graham on fundraising I have found no better primer on the current realities of starting a new technology company in a startup hub like Silicon Valley than Paul Grahams essays. Alas, they arent published in a dead-tree medium yet, so I cant say something like "they are the essential reference on my bookcase." but rest assured they would be.

Selling to large enterprises costs big dollars no matter how frictionless your sale is

BeyondVC

I have written a number of times about frictionless sales and how on-demand companies have a huge opportunity to reduce their sales and marketing costs and subsequently scale their business more efficiently. Here is an excerpt from a prior post : Frictionless sales means reducing the pain for customers to adopt and use a service/product and consequently reducing the cost of sales and marketing to get a customer and generate revenue.

YouNoodle YouFailed

Eric Friedman

I signed up for yet another service today called YouNoodle. It has been in development for awhile, but recently came back on my radar via TechCrunch Coverage. Unfortunately they sent my invitation tonight to their service CC’ing over 100 other people. Yes, seriously. I have a pretty good sense of humor about these types of things – and hey YouNoodle is getting another blog post about their service – but putting 100+ people in the CC of your launch email is pretty sad.

The Future of Web Startups

www.paulgraham.com

October 2007 (This essay is derived from a keynote at FOWA in October 2007.) Theres something interesting happening right now. Startups are undergoing the same transformation that technology does when it becomes cheaper. Its a pattern we see over and over in technology. Initially theres some device thats very expensive and made in small quantities. Then someone discovers how to make them cheaply; many more get built; and as a result they can be used in new ways.

Building Healthy Innovation Ecosystems for Your Projects

Speaker: Nick Noreña, Innovation Coach and Advisor, Kromatic

Every startup and innovation project exists within an ecosystem that either helps or hurts that project. As innovation managers, we need to keep a pulse of that ecosystem and make sure we're helping those innovation projects we're managing every step of the way. In this webinar, Nick Noreña will walk through an Innovation Ecosystem Model that he and his team at Kromatic have developed to help investors, heads of product, teachers, and executives understand how they can best support innovation in

Energy Conservation Opportunities in China

Pascal's View

China is a land of contrasts, and on my recent trip, which included visits to Shanghai, Lijiang, Xian, Hong Kong/Macau, and, of course, Beijing, we witnessed a country fully committed to irrevocable infrastructural change and possessed of a national will to move forward in both its social and economic growth. From an energy conservation standpoint, there are great opportunities for China to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions.

Critical Mass London- Get out your Bike [Updated]

Jason Ball

<update> After further thought, I won't be attending. Possibly the most dangerous vehicle on the roads is the Irresponsible Cyclist. While I agree that more cycle awareness and support for cyclists is needed, I don't think breaking the law, clogging traffic and generally causing mayhem is the best way to advance cycling in metropolitan areas.

M&A – it ain't over till it's over

BeyondVC

The economy is clearly slowing down and the IPO market is nonexistent. As I have always said, this is the time to hunker down and tweak your business to get your model right. If you are interested in exiting today, M&A continues to be the only viable path along that front. Having been through a number of acquisitions and potential acquisitions through the years, one point I must remind you of is that any deal isn’t over until its over.

Apple TV is the Apple Newton of my generation

Eric Friedman

Image via Wikipedia Let me start by saying that I love my Apple TV. I also know that the Newton time line does not exactly make sense with my title but hopefully you understand my meaning here… When Apple TV first came out I did not understand it, did not think it was that interesting, and moved on. Fast forward to getting a HD TV and having lots of content to consume on my computer and wanting to see it on my TV I took a closer look at Apple TV.

Beijing Olympics Journal: I Have Michael Phelps’ T-Shirt

Pascal's View

When Michael Phelps won the Olympic Gold medal for the Men’s 200m Butterfly earlier this week, I was excited to be there as a witness to part of his record breaking eight Gold medal run in Beijing. Little did I know that I would bring an historic piece of Michael Phelps’ wardrobe back to San Francisco with me. I was sitting in the second row at the left of the pool, near the medal ceremony podiums, and Phelps was carrying a red shirt balled up in a knot after he received his medal an

The Music Revolution

Jason Ball

Wow, talk about music news this week. Muxtape got its wrist slapped by the RIAA… …but there are new music start ups to pick up where Muxtape left off (if it’s in fact dead, and not a publicity stunt). Some new arrivals on the scene are 8Tracks , Grooveshark Lite and Simplify Media. I’ve covered other cool music sites in the past here as well.
