The market size for online advertising, e-commerce, and web premium services are 1/10th to 1/3rd the size they are today. Facebook doesn’t exist, even as a walled-garden college social network (Mark Zuckerberg was part way through his freshman year at Harvard). We have a long way to go baby! Congrats! . link] leehower.

The movie, “The Social Network” might have had more of an impact on creating future entrepreneurs than any other event of the past 5 years. LP contributions to VC firms shrunk from 2000 and by 2005-2008 had stabilized to around $30 billion per year. Businesses are also one-click from advertising through Google and now Facebook.

Friendster’s valuation set the tone for the entire social networking space. we had no revenue. But with so many investors still licking their wounds from the dot-com bust, many focused on proven business models, such as advertising or e-commerce. The graphic we chose emphasizes that it is a network of people.
