A similar pattern exists for venture capital funding: In 2020, just three regions — the Bay Area, New York, and Massachusetts — accounted for 70%+ of total venture funding in the U.S. In fact, the enforceability of non-competes in Massachusetts has been cited as one key contributor to the rise of Silicon Valley compared to Boston.

If I honor your NDA, and I meet a great investor or potential employee or valuable partner for your new venture, I wouldnt be able to tell them about it. The same goes for "non-competes" or non- solicitation covenants. The biggest value I can probably offer you is that I would talk about what youre working on.

Google is not descriptive of the company’s search core competency nor was it particularly easy to pronounce, spell or remember when the site was initially launched. Amazon – While arguably better than the company’s initial name, “Cadabra.com”, “Amazon” does not convey the company’s initial core competency of online book sales.
