When you think about Switzerland, there are usually three things that come to mind: fantastic watches, beautiful mountains, and gigantic corporate banks. The Global Innovation Index places Switzerland as the most innovative country in the world. Switzerland has a fantastic infrastructure that drives this new tech.

We heard first-hand just how close it was that Facebook had considered locating its headquarters in Switzerland and how the Irish rallied and now host more than 400 jobs locally and growing. Sheryl had given her an indication that Ireland wasn’t the top pick and it looked like Switzerland was high on the list. More on that in moment.

While these movements spooked investors, I spent a few days in Zug, Switzerland, the heart of “Crypto Valley” to meet with blockchain entrepreneurs and local investors. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, famously chose Zug as Ethereum Foundation’s HQ based on Switzerland’s favorable regulatory environment at the time.
