Sponsorship advertising on a content site Once my card game site was successful I began researching how to make money from it. I sold cards initially because I already knew there was a market for that and I had the cards, but I was also aware that if I had an audience I could charge sponsors money to advertise to them.

I didn’t buy from Zappos last year, but I did go a little crazy at Australian stores like TheIconic.com.au , which has been doing an advertising blitz locally in Australia to spread awareness via billboards and bus ads. Offer prizes, discounts, an affiliate or referral program, or simply ask for reviews post-purchase.

I haven’t been to the desert in Australia, but it’s about the equivalent of that. I have a house in Brisbane, Australia, and I own my car, etc. I’ll show you a picture in a moment, so it’s an Australia-wide website devoted to this card game. In this model, you take some fraction of the lifetime value of each customer and plow that back into paid acquisition through SEM, banner ads, PR, affiliates, etc. Thats why eBay advertises on search engines, and Facebook doesnt. For Neopets, its simply a side-effect of their game-like product design.
