If this happens, the risk of having an unpleasant experience is much higher, as an early stage startup cannot afford 7 months off the correct path. To give you a practical example, I’d like to analyze the reasons why my startup was rejected from participating in Start-Up Chile ’s Generation 17. Neither of which makes any sense.

Over my career as a serial entrepreneur I observed that since the late 1990s, no early-stage Silicon Valley investor had used business plans to screen investments. I realized this class was teaching students exactly what it felt like to be an entrepreneur! Even those who asked for them never read them. And there it was.

In recent years, startup accelerators and startup incubators have become the place of choice for any budding entrepreneurs to be the next unicorn. Incubators, on the other hand, are focused on building the entrepreneurship foundation of first-time entrepreneurs. It lasts longer than an accelerator, usually 6 months to a year.

The main observation of differences between Silicon Valley and emerging tech hubs in the rest of the world is access to early stage seed funding and international press. Although entrepreneurs need to practice their pitches (and English). Many startups are Silicon Valley clones.
