Although we were studying finance, we were always more interested in tech. Take a look at some of the emails between us from 2010: We were attending NYU from 2008–2012. But we never lost the finance bug. But we got serious in early 2016 when we developed deep conviction around the immense technical vision of Ethereum.

I call it drip-financing. Most entrepreneurs have no choice but to avail of this sort of financing along with the mentoring and the contacts that could come with it (doesn't always come along, though). In 1M/1M, our preferred financing strategy is customers. Because customer financing equals revenue, not equity.

The smart home business is still in the very early stages in India, and it will take some time before Evolutech ramps up. From 2008 to 2010, Mitra was a columnist for Forbes. These resellers buy devices from the U.S. and Singapore at significantly higher prices and presumably would be open to sourcing lower-cost parts.

Nonetheless, in the last couple of years, the flow of first-time entrepreneurs who come out with the misconception that Entrepreneurship = Financing has not abated. Folks, please understand a simple point: Business schools, when they teach you entrepreneurship, teach you about financing.

Other angel investors and smaller funds also copied this innovation, and many of these new Micro-VC fund managers (like me) came from operational backgrounds at companies like PayPal/eBay, Yahoo, Amazon, or Google, rather than finance backgrounds from investment banking or Wall Street. and no, we didn’t.

The presentation was on outsourcing generally, not just software engineering and the audience was very early stage companies (some yet to be founded). Now, for very early stage companies, you may be thinking, “I don’t have any cash, so outsourcing isn’t an option.&# To that I say baloney.
