It’s obviously very large, but most start-up activity is concentrated in a few cities: Bangalore (the “Silicon Valley” of India), Delhi (the 33m strong capital of India), Mumbai (the financial capital) and Chennai. Sequoia, Accel, Lightspeed, Nexus, Matrix and Elevation came up in conversations all the time.

I feel like “conversion rate optimization” is in 2013 what “social media marketing” was in 2009. Not because they have a conversion problem but because they never really nail the product or how to market it. This is not a conversion problem. This is a customer development problem.

They couldn’t keep up with the fast product development times that were enabled by using standard microprocessors. So their management teams were insisting that they OEM (buy from someone else) these products. The Customer is a Genius Then instead of talking about our products he segued the conversation into their products.

Downstream investors can potentially rewrite a lot of the conversion terms later, screwing over earlier investors. Some early stage investors, especially outside of the Silicon Valley, still won’t do any deal that is on a convertible note or convertible security, so if you’re not based in the Silicon Valley, this is something to consider.
