In a recent conversation with a fellow CTO, we lamented about the fact that while there's very active software development and web development going on in Southern California and West Los Angeles, yet there didn't seem to be as much of a community around it. Yes, there are some events around particular technologies.

What I really liked in my conversations with The Hive is that they are willing to work with and fund ventures that would never get VC dollars. Dr. Karrer was valedictorian at Loyola Marymount University, attended the University of Southern California as a Tau Beta Pi fellow, one of the top 30 engineers in the nation, and received a M.S.

You never got around to agreeing exact equity splits but you had many conversations about it. They’ll invite you out to events in which you’ll meet their other clients, you can get to know them socially and hopefully develop a real mentorship relationship where every conversation is not on the clock.

I really enjoy events where there are interesting people with interesting conversations to be had. I’m sure it sparks interesting conversations. What networking events in Los Angeles or Southern California do you go to? But I also like to be home with my family (or playing volleyball or whatever). People understand that.

Im constantly frustrated by conversations that take place in discussion groups that cant cross the border into the blog world. Blogs also make it easy for new people to find those interesting conversation. In this era of “open source” everything, open conversations on blogs make a lot of sense. What networking events in Los Angeles or Southern California do you go to? That's great to hear. 2) How do these mind maps change in a 2.0
